But whatever, It's a slow day at the GDC and I can't think of anything else to put.
Games I will most likely be getting this year are...
- Alan Wake - Only recently made it onto my list, but the trailers look fantastic, coupled with the fact that this will be Microsoft's biggest exclusive for the most of this year, I can't see them letting it be a bad game.
- Splinter Cell: Conviction - I've always been a big fan of this series, with Double Agent being one of my favourite games of all time. Conviction looks amazing and many of the previews I've seen are making it look as if this will be the best in the series.
- Pokemon Heart Gold/Soul Silver - What can I say, Pokemon may be a childish thing to like, but I maintain that the games are some of the most hardcore turn based RPGs around. Gold and Silver are widely regarded as the best in the series, which isn't a shock as they truly are. Diamond, Pearl and platinum looked beautiful and I cannot wait to replay one of the best handheld RPGs and arguably best RPGs on any console out there with shiny new graphics.
- Blur - Wow, never in my gaming life have I been more impressed by a demo/beta, especially when it's multi-player only and a racing game, but damn its good, check out my impressions here.
- Halo Reach - I love Halo. I loved Halo way before the whole "it's cool to hate Halo" thing began. So of course I'm going to look forward to a game the developers are calling the "definitive Halo".
- Blazblue: Calamity Trigger - I like fighters, I like lots of colours, I like not feeling quite in control of what's going on on-screen and I love craziness.
- Split/Second - Burnout with more explosions...nuff said.
- Sonic the Hedgehog 4 - Dare I hope that DIMPS wont fuck it up? I mean, Sonic Rush was good, but are they going to make this like that? I hope not, there's only so much trust I can give SEGA nowadays.
- Xbox LIVE Game Room - This is more intrigue then excitement, loads of retro classics rolled into a single service, unchanged and cheaper then your average XBLA release. And by retro, we're talking Atari to Genesis, with some word going round that Dreamcast emulation is in the works!! Their aim is to amass over 1000 games into this service!
- Metro 2033 (PC) - Although it looks as if this game wont be without its problems, it looks like something I will really enjoy. Post apocalyptic wastelands seem to be flavour of the month at the moment, and THQ's look bloody good!
So, there you have it, my top games to look out for this year. I'm probably going to update the list as the year progresses, and as Alan Wake and Splinter Cell get pushed back again (probably). Keep an eye out.
I imagine some of my fellow authors will do a list similar to this at some point so keep an eye out for those aswell.
